1. Description
Methyl salicylate is extracted from essential oil of Wintergreen oil, Ylang ylang oil, and Acacia oil. Has wintergreen character floral and fruity. Methyl salicylate is mainly used in formulations for its topical analgesic effect. Formulated as an ointment, often in association with menthol, it provides temporary pain relief where applied (muscles, articulations,...) helping in relieving pain from muscle aches, arthritis, etc.

Sport-massage products: 1- 9% (in the European market) - Flavouring agent : 0.0001% to 0.6%
- Flavouring agent in toothpastes up till 1%
- Skin creams: 1%
- Mouth water: 0.05%
- Not allowed in products near the eyes.
- Application
- Used in the fragrance formulation, especially in fragrance of tuberose and chypre, and in soaps.
- Used in flavor formulation, especially in the flavor of strawberry, vanilla, and grape.
- Used as food additive of soft drinks.
- Used as an antiseptic in mouthwash solutions.
- Used as raw material for printing ink and medicine.
