INTRODUCTION

Tamanu oil (Calophyllum inophyllum) is a precious natural vegetable oil extracted from the kernel of the Tamanu tree, a woody plant belonging to the mangosteen family (Clusiaceae). The tree commonly grows in low hilly areas and along canals, rivers, and ponds in Central Vietnam, the Southeast, and the Mekong Delta. When ripe, Tamanu fruits have a brown outer shell enclosing kernels rich in natural fatty acids. After harvesting, the seeds are cold- pressed and undergo a multi-stage refining process to remove impurities while preserving benifical fatty acids sush as oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid, and others.

Thanks to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids and bioactive compounds such as coumarins, calophyllic acid, and calophyllolide, Tamanu oil possesses strong skin-regenerating, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.
